Both our shelters are safe havens for rescued dogs that would have had no chance to survive on the island streets, forced to fend for themselves. Here at Happy Dogs we turn no dog or cat in need away. This is only possible with the help of generous supporters who help finance this sustainable cause by sponsoring and adopting the dogs in our care. This non for profit animal welfare organisation works towards the rescue of neglect, abused, abandoned and injured animals in Thailand – Giving the voiceless a voice
Many local pet owners are financially poor and cannot afford the vets when their animals get ill. To end the suffering and to make sure these animals will receive the much needed treatment, we help with vet bills. And because we don’t have our own charity veterinarian we pay the local vet for each and every treatment needed. X-rays and blood works, simple surgeries and the treatment of various illness and diseases can be performed by our local vet friend Dr. Tookta – but for more serious cases such as broken legs and fractures we need to consult our trusted vet Dr Kwanchai in Pattaya. Dr Tookta cannot perform such surgeries. And only with your support we can continue helping ALL needy dogs and cats. Please help us, help!
HDKC has a big heart for all animals and especially for those that have no one to care for them. No animal should be left starving. Animals get ill from rotting left overs and food finds from rubbish-suffering, starvation and malnutrition. This can be prevented by providing them with a good diet. We love to see healthy, well-fed and happy dogs. Help us to help and feed them, by sponsoring food for a dog or two.
Our daily stray feeding tours are a big and very important part of our rescue work. We currently feed and medically treat around 120 dogs daily. Moms with pups receive food twice a day. Feeding is such an important part not only to keep the dogs healthy but also to gain their trust. A trusting dog is way easier to catch for vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip implantation for database registration. Happy Dogs with volunteer help covers about 60% of the island’s population. The feeding tours alone take around 4-6 hours daily.
Almost all strays living in the jungle, on the streets and beaches suffer from very common diseases and parasites. Treatments against scabies/ mange, fleas, lice and ticks and tick and mosquito borne illness such as blood parasites, heart worm etc are very common. Minor wounds such as from fights are cleaned, powdered with kill l to prevent flies laying their eggs in them and dressed to prevent maggot infestations.
One of the most important tasks for us at Happy Dogs Koh Chang is to spay and neuter as many strays and pets on the island as possible! Spaying dogs will reduce the overpopulation in an ethical and humane way, and without regular spay/neuter surgeries, the number of strays and puppies that nobody wants to care for and the suffering of Koh Chang’s animals will never end.
Since Koh Chang is an island, we see a realistic chance to get the stray dog population under control in a timely manner. But without your support, we will never reach this goal, we do need your support, please help us help them! We meanwhile get cats/dogs de-sexed for 700 Baht each and this includes a rabies shot and microchip for dogs/ear tattoo for cats!
Starting 2012, until July, 2020 we have spayed / neutered far over 3000 dogs and cats. Various organizations have helped us out over the years; Tier Botschafter, Tierschutz Fuer Vergessene Seelen, Four Paws Int’l, and Thailand based Animal Army just to name a few. The vet team of mainland based DLD has also helped several times with mass spays here on the island.

get in touch with us through the contact form and we will respond to your request as soon as possible and register your animal.
We currently have 2 shelters; The Sanctuary and the Safe house.
The Sanctuary is an emergency shelter, built for those that need emergency/pre-op care and dogs that won’t survive on the streets on their own.
The Safe-house is where we take care of dogs that are ready for adoption, we socialize them here, get the dogs lead and house trained and teach them the doggy abc.
We care for about 160 stray dogs everyday (Soi dogs), dogs that need food, medical care and love. Just the 2 of us are able to cover about half the island’s stray population on a daily basis, for the remaining in other island parts, we try to check them once a week. We feed, medicate and generally care for these lovelies.
Most of them are already spayed/neutered and vaccinated, those that are not yet, we’re working on it! Gaining trust over food and daily presence.
You can help us making a difference with a donation or a regular monthly donation! Every giving counts, no matter how big or small. Thank you for you empathy and compassion Thailand’s Soi dogs!
